CERP initial help

Readings and Resources that will help me for my CERP

Age of Migration:

“Multicultural social policies are based on the idea that immigrants do need special services that address their special needs with regard to education, language learning, and housing.” (p. 234)

“People start to see their life perspectives in the new country. This process is especially linked to the situation of migrants’ children… it becomes more and more difficult for the parents to return to their homelands” (28)

“Members of a specific group decide to ‘invoke’ ethnicity, as a criterion for self-identification, in a situation where such identification is necessary or useful. This explains the variability of ethnic boundaries.” (34)

Citizenship: cultural homogeneity is the nationalist ideal (43)

If I work with the muslim community in germany, this article will be useful because Germans do not acknowledge the religion like they do with other Religions. Youth wanting to assimilate, how important is culture to them than fitting in with other German youth?

Identity in Germany linked to ethnicity. How does that impact youth?

These readings all speak to identity of migrants coming into the country. I just do not feel like the tackle specifically youths, whose identity is most at stake. How Germany perceives different ethnicities and cultures seems to directly impact certain groups, but does not necessarily focus on the individuals of the group it impacts.

While not completely in line with my subject, I believe (at least at this moment) biracial to be similar to bicultural in that claiming an identity can be difficult at times especially when we benefit but also are disadvantaged by aspects of both identities.
